Gorilla Trekking - Beautiful Uganda

Gorilla trekking in Uganda is an experience of a lifetime. Uganda, known as the Pearl of Africa, is situated on the equator, hugging the shore of Lake Victoria, and bordered by Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Uganda is one of the most ecologically diverse and fertile countries in Africa.

A UNESCO World Heritage site, located on the eastern edge of the Albertine Rift Valley, the remote Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is known for its exceptional biodiversity with more than 160 species of trees and over 100 species of ferns. More than half of the world’s mountain gorillas are located in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda. You can trek across rainforest ridges and valleys to get up close to families of mountain gorillas, along with other inhabitants of this beautiful forest.

In addition to the gorillas, Bwindi hosts numerous globally threatened species including other high-profile mammals such as chimpanzee, l’Hoest’s monkey and African elephant; birds such as African green broadbill, Grauer’s swamp warbler, Turner’s Eremomela, Chapin’s flycatcher and Shelley’s crimson-wing; and butterflies such as African giant swallowtail and Cream-banded swallowtail.

Trekking the mountain gorillas in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is an experience of a lifetime, and can be visited as a separate safari, or in conjunction with your travels in Tanzania. Uganda also offers many other exciting national parks to explore. You may want to consider extending your gorilla trekking adventure to include a visit to Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth and Rwenzori Mountains National Parks.
