About the Gorge
Most famous archaeological site worldwide. This important site of human evolution is located inside Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The area is rich of fossils of ancient hominids and animals as well as preserved signs and stone tools of an early man. Excavation by British/Kenyan paleoanthropologist-archeologist team Mary and Louis Leakey revealed small-brained, upright walking hominid- Australopithecus afarensis; Zinjathropus; and Homo habilis as well as 3.6 million years old footprints at Laetole, south west of Olduvai museum.
